P.A. Snowmobiling club will boost economic development: Mayor

Prince Albert’s mayor is hoping to attract business to the city, one sledder at a time.

In order to keep growing the city’s economy sector, Mayor Greg Dionne is working with the Prince Albert Trail Riders Inc. to design new snowmobiling routes that will attract riders from surround communities. On Thursday, July 20, the club’s treasurer, Gerry Dolezsar, awarded Dionne an honorary membership to the club.

The city of Prince Albert created a safe bypass route allowing local snowmobilers to ride in and around the city. It also allows access to services like fuel, food, lodging, and accommodation.

“We’re hoping that as a result from this, people will use the accommodations in Prince Albert, making this the hub of snowmobiling in north central Saskatchewan,” Dionne said. “We have to promote the north”

The trail is planned to include connections from Prince Albert to Saskatoon, Canwood, the Lakeland area, Candle Lake, and maybe even Nipawin and Melfort.

“A year ago there were a lot of stumbling blocks…with the city behind us it builds that enthusiasm to make all these things happen,” Dolezsar said.

He said another key aspect of the parternship between the city and the club is creating an enjoyable, safe trail for everybody. In order to do that, there will be stop signs, yield signs and warning signs implemented to keep traffic controlled.

“Our goal here is to make this family friendly so it involves men, women, children and make it into a real nice thing to do,” he said.
