Suspect arrested in cancelled Amber Alert case

Jul 4, 2017 | 8:33 PM

UPDATE: Jarrod John Charles has been taken into custody by the Prince Albert Police Service.

Investigators are searching for a man suspected of abducting a Prince Albert child earlier today.

Police are asking for the public’s assistance in locating Jarrod John Charles, 19, who is from St. Louis, Sask.

He is described dark skinned, wearing glasses, with long shaggy hair, wearing a dark ball cap, a red shirt and dark pants. Police say he was driving a 2002 black four-door Chrysler Neon with a rear spoiler. The vehicle was seen leaving the area where an eight-year-old girl was abducted, heading North on Olive Diefenbaker Dr.

The license on the vehicle is a Saskatchewan plate: 525 KQI.

If you see Charles, police say to not approach him and contact the Prince Albert Police Service immediately. Anyone with any information is urged to call the detachment directly at 306-953-4222.

Charles was charged with abduction last September after taking two young boys from the La Ronge area to his grandmother’s home. The incident also triggered an Amber Alert. Those charges were ultimately dropped because Crown found the incident did not fit the legal requirements.

Attention. This is an activation of the Amber Alert System at the request of Saskatchewan RCMP.

A child has been abducted in Prince Albert, Saskatchewan.

The victim is an eight-year-old Caucasian child. She has dark blonde hair, brown eyes, is 4’6″ inches tall, weighs 53 lbs and was last seen wearing a pink shirt and black and white polka-dotted skirt.

Police believe she was taken by a man with dark skin between the age of 18 to 30-years-old with long shaggy hair wearing a dark ball cap. He is driving a dark four-door coloured vehicle with a rear spoiler. The vehicle was last seen heading North on Olive Diefenbaker Dr.

Police say the eight-year-old girl was playing in a playground in the Crescent Acres area of Prince Albert. The man with the shaggy black hair entered the playground alone and hung around the playground for about 15 minutes. The girl was observed exiting the playground. The male followed. The man was seen talking to the girl against the school wall. He then grabbed the girl and placed her into the back seat of his car. He climbed into the front of the vehicle and drove away from the school.

If you have any information about this abduction, please call 9-1-1 or your local policing authority.

Do not attempt to approach or apprehend the suspect, call police immediately.
