Hitting the links for children in need

May 20, 2017 | 4:00 PM

It’s a great opportunity to get out on the links for a good cause.

Hope’s Home daycare in Prince Albert is gearing up for one of their major fundraisers, the fourth annual Hope’s Home Charity Golf Tournament to be held on June 2 at Kachur’s Golf Club.

Hope’s Home is the first medical daycare in Canada and the nonprofit has been in operation in Prince Albert since 2013. The daycare takes in children and their families with complex medical needs. Mickey MacGillivray, director of education for Hope’s Home in Prince Albert, said the golf tournament is a way to draw awareness and raise funds for the organization.

“[The golf tournament] was a hit right off the bat…we have regular teams that keep coming back. We are excited to have a lot of new teams and a lot of new sponsors this year. It’s just a great day, it’s a fun day of golf in support of Hope’s Home,” MacGillivray said.

The money raised will go towards the daycares operations to help fund things like nursing care, education programs and the upkeep of the building. All the money raised will stay in Prince Albert. MacGillivray said Hope’s Home provides programs for whatever its clients’ needs.

“We want to offer the best programs possible, so that’s what that money helps towards,” MacGillivray said.

Last year’s golf tournament raised roughly $9,000. MacGillivray said there is still room for teams to register for this year’s tournament and anyone interested in registering can contact Hope’s Home.

The June 2 tournament at Kachur’s Golf Club, just north of Prince Albert on Highway 3, will begin at 10 a.m. with a shotgun start at 11 a.m.
