Annual summer tradition back for another year

May 7, 2017 | 8:03 AM

The Prince Albert Downtown Street Fair will be back June 17 to celebrate 14 years.

Lori Bourne, event coordinator for the Prince Albert Downtown Business Improvement District (PADBID), said the street fair will once again be held on Central Avenue. This year they have decided to extend the hours of the street fair to run from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m.

“It’s an extra two hours in the evening to encourage people who may have to work to be able to come down and still enjoy all that we have to offer,” Bourne said.

Alongside this will be a number of other new elements this year, including two stages for performers instead of one and food vendors near Memorial Square.

“We have a new character this year. We have Darth Vader and two Stormtroopers coming. Plus, we have our [eight] Disney princesses and they are also going to be performing on stage. They are wonderful princesses and they sing their Disney songs,” Bourne said.

The street fair will continue to have the usual activities like bouncy castles, pony rides, crafts and home based vendors, kid vendors and the farmers market. The Mann Art Gallery will be back with face painting. Roger Boucher will be performing magic once again.

Bourne said there are over 20 vendors registered already, along with six food trucks. She said there is always room for more and anyone interested in registering as either a food truck or performer can contact the PADBID office.

The event has seen its attendance increase over the years, with 2016 seeing over 12,000 people flock to the city’s downtown core.

Bourne said the reason for the increase could be the fact that it’s a fun, family event where residents get to enjoy food, music and local performers.
