Comets strike gold at Hoopla; Carlton falls twice

The Melfort Comets won the provincial 4A high school girls basketball championship.

They beat Moose Jaw Peacock 64-42 in Saturday’s gold medal game at Hoopla in Regina. 

It’s the first basketball title for the Melfort girls. The Comets qualified for the final with a 57-37 win over Weyburn in the semi finals.

The Kinistino girls had to settle for silver after an 87-41 loss to Wynyard in the 2A championship game. They beat Shaunavon 68-53 in the semi finals. 

The Birch Hills boys captured the 3A bronze medal with a 75-43 win over Clavet. They suffered a 76-67 semi-final loss to Regina Christian.

The St. Brieux boys lost 82-72 to Saskatoon Ecole Canadienne in the 2A semi finals, and lost 90-87 to Osler in the 2-A bronze medal game.

The Carlton girls lost both of their hoopla games. The Crusaders lost their 5A quarterfinal game 55-44 to the eventual silver medalists, Saskatoon Centennial and 55-51 to Regina Campbell in the consolation round.
