Sask. affiliated convict escapes, on Canada-wide warrant

Aug 14, 2016 | 2:52 PM

A convict from northern Saskatchewan has escaped federal custody in Alberta.

Darrell Moosomin, 54, had been granted permission to attend the Samson Cree Nation powwow in Alberta while escorted by an Elder.

RCMP said Moosomin was “able to walk away” from the scene and is now missing.

He has no known family or friends and it’s unknown where he might be headed. He is originally from the Mosquito Lake area of Sask.

Due to several violent offenses such as aggravated assault, forcible confinement and obstructing a police/peace officer, Moosomin is listed as a Dangerous Offender and was serving an indeterminate prison sentence.

He is 5’9″, 217 lb. with a medium complexion, brown eyes and black hair. There is a scar on his neck and tattoos on his right hand and upper back.

Correction Service Canada said they are investigating how Moosomin was able to walk away from the Elder and disappear.

If anyone spots Moosomin, they are to stay back and call RCMP immediately.
