Raiders introduce new assistant coach, Brandin Cote

Aug 11, 2016 | 2:08 PM

A Saskatchewan boy made a homecoming of sorts, this morning at Cooke Municipal Golf Course.

New Raiders assistant coach, Brandin Cote of Swift Current, was formally introduced to the media at the Raiders Golf Classic on Thursday, Aug. 11.

Cote spoke to media briefly about his reaction to the new job, his experience coaching so far and the process of being hired by a major junior club for the first time.

Cote called the hiring process ‘smooth’ and said it was “just actually a couple conversations. Nothing too major.”

“Ultimately I had to sit down with my family and decide if it was something we could work,” he said.

Cote began coaching in 2013, with the Bentley Generals Senior Mens AAA team in Red Deer, Alta.

The squad went on to win the Allan Cup that year, helping Cote settle into his coaching style and learn how to guide a senior level hockey club to a championship. He then went on to coach the Red Deer Optimist Chiefs of the Alberta Midget AAA Hockey League.

As for what he will bring to the Raiders in the upcoming season, Cote says he’s looking forward to being a part of Head Coach Marc Habscheid’s team and bridging the gap between young players and their experienced coach.

“I’ll have some specialty type things I’ll be responsible for,” Cote said, “But ultimately I think I can establish a good relationship with these players. I know where they’re coming from.”

The Raiders open their pre-season schedule on Sept. 2, with a game against the Regina Pats.
