Jul 13, 2016 | 11:17 PM

UPDATE: Investigators from the Transportation Safety Board confirmed it was a crop duster plane which crashed in central Saskatchewan.

The 40-year-old male pilot was killed when his plane went down near Hoey Wednesday night.

Eric Vermette, investigator and regional manager for the Transportation Safety Board, said the crash happened shortly after take-off while the pilot was crop dusting a field. He confirmed the plane caught fire post-crash.

The next step of the investigation is to determine whether the crash was due to mechanical failure or pilot error. Vermette said it could be several days before a cause is discovered.

The next of kin has been notified, but the name of the pilot has not been released and RCMP have said they won’t be providing any more information.
