ELECTION 2016: Record number of candidates for Sask. election

Saskatchewan residents have a record number of candidates to choose from as the provincial election draws closer.

Elections Saskatchewan said there is a total of 268 candidates representing the six registered political parties. That number is up 77 from the 191 candidates who ran in the 2011 provincial election, and it breaks the previous record of 250 candidates from the election in 1982.

Candidates needed to submit their nomination papers to Elections Saskatchewan by 2 p.m. Saturday.

The complete list of candidates can be found at www.elections.sk.ca/candidates.

In terms of voting, there will be options for Saskatchewan residents including by mail, homebound voting, voting in a returning office, advance voting, or casting your ballot on election day (April 4).

Elections Saskatchewan is the province’s independent, impartial, professional election management body. Given a mandate from the Saskatchewan Legislative Assembly, it organizes, manages and oversees provincial electoral events, including the upcoming Saskatchewan election.
