Green Hill Lodge filling a care gap in P.A.

Nov 8, 2015 | 10:41 AM

The old Pineview Terrace Lodge senior’s facility has a new look and feel.

It was bought from the Prince Albert Parkland Health Region last year, and renamed the Green Hill Lodge.

It now caters to light care, unlike the continuing care that had been provided. Co-owners Zabi Ullah, Amir Ashraf, and Saima Hussain all say there was a great need for this type of care.

“On Sept. 1 there were only six rooms to accommodate people in the whole city, and how we already have 11 residents,” Ullah said.

Since they took possession of the building they have been hard at work renovating the building.

Ashraf said the old building had a grey, clinical feel that they wanted to avoid. He said they wanted to “turn it into a home.”

The living spaces are now much brighter, and rooms come with more amenities.

“When you look around and see residents engaged, playing games, and being entertained, I think it’s a great value,” Ashraf said.

Ullah said residents who had lived at Pineview Terrace, some of whom had lived there for more than 15 years, came by for a visit and loved it. “They wanted to move back in here,” he said with a laugh.

Green Hill Lodge plans to provide continuing and long-term care, but that day is still far-off.

Pineview Terrace moved to be closer to the hospital, and still provides long-term care for anyone who needs it.

Ashraf emphasized the independent nature of living at Green Hill Lodge that attracts residents, saying they wanted to go for a “transitional model.”

Separate from the main building are several townhouses and apartments for elderly residents who are still mobile. If their needs change, Ashraf said it would be easy for them to transition to the main building.

Depending on the needs of the resident, living care with a private bathroom costs between $2500-2700, and assisted living is $1900-2100.

Hussian believes they are one of the cheaper homes in the area.
