Prince Albert Airport brought to standstill after plane crash

Oct 12, 2015 | 3:43 PM

A plane crash brought the Prince Albert Airport to a standstill mid-afternoon on Monday.

The single engine plane crashed shortly after takeoff at 2 p.m.  Oct. 12. It rested off the end of the runway, not on its landing gear.

No fires were reported.

Airport authorities could confirm that it was a private plane, but could not specify who owned it.

Parkland Ambulance confirmed the 40-year-old pilot and his 13-year-old daughter were not injured in the crash. There were no other passengers.

Officials would not comment whether the crash was due to mechanical failure or pilot error, saying that any one one in a million things could have gone wrong to cause the crash.

Clearing the runway was expected to take at least two hours. The plane was loaded onto a flatbed and then taken off the runway.

The airport reopened shortly before 6 p.m.

The crash caused a ripple effect of delays to nearby airports.

Flights from Prince Albert to Collins Bay & Macleans Lake were rerouted to Saskatoon by bus.

paNOW will have more on the story as it developes.
