Corrections Canada is investigating a death at the Saskatchewan Penitentiary.

On Sept. 3, Arthur William Michel, an inmate from the Sask. Pen’s minimum security unit was found unresponsive in his cell. Staff members performed CPR and emergency services were called. The offender was taken to the Victoria Union Hospital where he was pronounced dead at 7:30 p.m.

At the time of his death, the 53-year-old had been serving a sentence of two years, six months and 14 days, since Dec. 3, 2014, for Sexual Assault and Fail To Comply with Undertaking.

The inmate’s next of kin have been notified of his death. As in all cases involving the death of an inmate, the police and the medical examiner have been notified, and Correctional Service Canada will review the circumstances of the incident.
