Conservative MP sheds light on the upcoming federal campaign

Aug 1, 2015 | 6:07 AM

Rumours of an upcoming election campaign seem to be the worst kept secret in Canada right now.

Some say Sunday, others say an announcement will be made by Prime Minister Stephen Harper early next week.

Randy Hoback, current MP in the federal riding of Prince Albert, represents the Conservative Party of Canada in the area. He said he hasn’t been privy to any information on when the campaign trail will be blazed.

“It’ll be called when it’s called. I don’t have really any insight on that,” said Hoback.”We’re going to be ready to go. We’ve already got our campaign office located and leased.”

“If it comes next week, if it comes Sunday, it really doesn’t matter.”

The former Golf USA building will be taken over by Hoback’s team on August 1 as their new campaign office.

Hoback said they’ve been preparing as part of his pre-campaign.

“We’ve already got our signs placed throughout the riding,” he said. “We’ve been ready to go for a couple of months.”

Besides that, they’ve been putting in leg work to get campaign funding together.

“We’ve been actively raising funds throughout the last couple years. So we’re funded, ready to go,” said Hoback. “Our volunteers are chomping at the bit to get started.”

“We’re going to be out actively door knocking and doing what we have to do to win this next election.”

He said when the campaign is called won’t affect him that much, other than having to cancel a few events and refraining from expensing during that period.

“We’ll still have the offices in Prince Albert and Nipawin up and running so if someone has problems with Unemployment Insurance or Old Age Security or anything to do with the federal government it’ll be staffed and they can go in there and get their assistance like always,” said Hoback. “Even though I’m actively out campaigning I know their issues are taken care of because I’ve got great, experienced people that are doing that work for me.”

“I look forward to getting out there and doing what we always do which is talking to people and listening.”

paNOW will continue to provide updated information on the upcoming federal election campaign.

We will be conversing with every candidate in the area in the next week, as they make themselves available.
