Charges laid in Shellbrook school stabbing

A 19-year-old Shellbrook man is facing charges in connection to a stabbing inside W.P. Sandin Public School on Friday.

Michael Rudolph has been charged with one count of aggravated assault and one charge related to carrying a weapon for the purpose of committing an offence.

The charges stem from an incident at the Shellbrook school that sent a girl under the age of 18 to the hospital with what was described as serious injuries. According to the RCMP, the girl was stabbed as she was exiting a classroom.

The RCMP said on Tuesday that it would not be providing updates about the girl’s condition since it is her own personal health information.

Both W.P. Sandin Public School and Shellbrook Elementary were put in a “hold and secure” for part of the day. Exterior doors were locked and monitored and classes continued.

Rudolph made a brief court appearance at Prince Albert Provincial Court on Tuesday morning. He was remanded back into custody for his next court appearance Wednesday morning.
