Police seek purse thief

Mar 3, 2015 | 4:58 PM

On the weekend, a young woman had just gotten into her car and put her purse on the passenger seat when a stranger opened that door and snatched up her purse.

That incident – which happened near a business in the 800-block of 15th Street East – is one in a string of purse thefts that now have Prince Albert police looking to identify the male suspect.

Prince Albert Police Service (PAPS) said on Tuesday they responded to another robbery complaint, this time in the 3700-block of Fourth Avenue West.

PAPS said a woman was approached from behind by the suspect and took her purse.  She was unharmed.

On Feb. 23 police attended the unit block of 10th Street East for an attempted robbery after a female was approached by a suspect.

Police said the suspect tried to take her purse, but the female fell to the ground instead clutching her bag.

The suspect fled, leaving her unharmed.

PAPS said it believes these robberies are connected.

In all three cases the suspect is described as an aboriginal male, five feet, seven inches tall with a thin build and a moustache.

In all three incidents he fled in a silver SUV, which police believe to be a Ford Escape.

Anyone with information about the suspect or the incidents is asked to call PAPS at 306-953-4222 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477).
