Kayla Natomagan found safe in Manitoba, Amber Alert cancelled

Feb 18, 2015 | 8:30 AM

The Saskatchewan RCMP has called off an Amber Alert issued for Kayla Natomagan, 17, who they report has been found safe by members of the Cranberry Portage RCMP Detachment in Manitoba.

She was allegedly abducted after a man was killed in her home at Lac La Ronge Indian Band in northern Saskatchewan. The suspect, Jonas Budd is still at large and is still considered to be armed and dangerous.

Members of the Saskatchewan and Manitoba RCMP believe he fled on foot “into the bush” and they are currently searching the area for him.

Budd is the ex-boyfriend of Natomagan mother and a restraining order and a peace bond had been issued against him.

Budd is described as aboriginal, five feet, nine inches tall, 170 pounds with black hair and brown eyes.

He has a number of tattoos, including one on his left forearm of a bear paw, one on his left calf of an eagle head, one on his left shin of a ribbon with the name “Nicole,” and one on his upper torso on his back of feathers.

Natomagan was last seen just after 3 a.m. at her home on Lac La Ronge on Wednesday.

Lac La Ronge Indian Band Chief Tammy Cook-Searson spoke to Natomagan’s mother, who said she just wants her daughter to be safe and to come home. She said the family is really emotional right now.

She could not provide additional information about the man who was killed in the home.

Budd’s older brother, Glenn, who lives in Sturgeon Landing, is issuing a plea to his brother to turn himself in. “Give yourself up and don’t do anything foolish,” Glenn Budd told paNOW on Wednesday morning.

Glenn said he talked to his brother last week. “We were just talking about how he was doing, and because he was working with my cousin out in Thompson, (Man.). Man, we were just joking around.”

He said he doesn’t believe his brother would be the type to hurt anyone.

Jonas Budd may be driving a grey 2001 GMC Sierra 1500, extended cab, two-wheel drive with Saskatchewan licence plate 043 JEZ. Police do not know what direction he may be headed.

He is known to have connections to Cumberland House, Pinehouse, Sturgeon Landing, Prince Albert and Thompson, Man.

Police are warning the public not to approach Budd. Anyone with information is being asked to call 1-877-SOAMBER or 1-877-762-6237.
