Salvation Army helps family through tough times: Foley

He’s fresh off signing an extension with the Saskatchewan Roughriders and while things might seem pretty good for defensive end Ricky Foley now, things weren’t always that way. 

Foley recently tweeted how the Salvation Army clothed him until he was 14-years-old.

“If it hadn’t been there for me and my family I don’t know what we would have done when we had those bad years on the farm because they kept me clothed and they saved my parents a lot of money that they did not have,” he explained.

“My parents had to supply farm clothes and school clothes. That’s a lot of a burden for three growing kids.”

The family went to the charitable organization often and many times, Foley looked at finding clothes as a game.

“I was in the Salvation Army once a week and God bless my mom, she made it fun, she’d make it a scavenger hunt and I’d find some needles in a haystack there,” Foley said.

Foley insisted how he wasn’t trying to be a spokesperson for the Sally Ann, he just wanted to simply share his story and encourage others to donate to the Kettle Campaign this time of year.

The campaign is over halfway to its goal of $210,000. You can donate directly at the kettles, which are set up at various locations around Regina, including at malls and liquor stores.
