Clearing up P.A. rural boil water confusion

The boil water advisory continues for anyone using the Prince Albert Rural Water Utility’s North Distribution System.

The city has received calls from the public regarding confusion around the advisory. Ken Danger, general manager with the rural utility said the advisory which began Thursday at 9 a.m., affects everybody connected to the rural water system on the north side of the river. It does not impact those north of the river who use the City’s water system.

“They read only half and then jump to conclusions and I know on Friday people were phoning the city and asking questions,” he said. “When they saw ‘north of the river,’ right away they thought they were affected.”

According to Danger the city is depressurizing the distribution system. If the maintenance and tests of the water were successful they should get results tomorrow.

“We have to take two sets of samples 24 hours apart,” he said. “We took one yesterday [Sunday] morning, one this morning and shipped them off to Saskatoon SRC [Saskatchewan Research Council] and we should have results back late tomorrow [Tuesday] afternoon.”

What those under the advisory are advised to do

Boil all drinking water for at least a minute
Don’t use water to make ice cubes, or to brush your teeth
Don’t wash dishes in water, unless they are sanitized a different way
Don’t wash fruit or veggies in water
Don’t drink from public water fountains

It is safe to use the rural water for most other household purposes, such as showering and laundry.
