Memo shows SaskPower’s smart meter safety concerns

Oct 29, 2014 | 5:13 PM

Bill Boyd, the minister in charge of SaskPower, says he does not remember receiving a memo from SaskPower addressing safety concerns about smart meters two years ago.

The memo talks about U.S. fires and how the public might question safety. SaskPower says in the memo it asked Sensus about the fires and was assured the meters were not the cause, but rather, it was caused by the wiring.

The opposition NDP released the note Wednesday afternoon and is calling for the minister to step down.

NDP critic Trent Wotherspoon claims there was a meeting between the minister and SaskPower’s CEO.  Boyd did not confirm or deny the meeting.
