FSIN chief Guy Lonechild finally speaks about calls for his resignation

Mar 4, 2011 | 9:54 AM

We are finally hearing from Guy Lonechild, the embattled chief of the Federation of Saskatchewan Indian Nations.

As he faces pressure from six former chiefs who want him to resign after pleading guilty to impaired driving, Lonechild spoke first with News Talk Radio's John Gormley Friday morning.

“I made a mistake. I'm willing to talk about the dangerous effects of alcoholism and drinking and driving. I'm hoping that good things can come of this and that we can get back to work on the important things that really matter to people,” Lonechild said.

However, he is not accepting the demands of the chiefs. Lonechild said he is staying on as chief, but his door is open if anyone wants to talk candidly with him.
