UPDATED: Birch Hills’ water turns brown and smelly

Residents in the Town of Birch Hills have been seeing brown-coloured and smelly water that’s been making people’s skin itch.

The town's officials are insisting that the water is safe to drink.

“We drained all our cisterns and flushed all our lines, and now they’re all filling with water again,” said Jaesen Dansereau, Birch Hills’s town foreman.

So far, they only have speculation of what caused the problem in the first place, but they’re working on pinpointing it, he said.

The town’s been in contact with the Water Security Agency, and sends water tests every week, said Dansereau.

“All our tests come back good, so it’s all safe to drink and everything.”

At least one concerned resident has written into paNOW saying that her water is “as brown as ever.” 

As of Monday evening, the town's website has no information about the drinking water situation available for its residents.
