The first tenants have been announced for a new $60 million dollar shopping centre in Saskatoon.

Northridge Development Corporation and Collier's International revealed Monday that Sobeys, Shoppers Drug Mart and TCU Financial will be the first tenants moving into the Stonebridge Centre located at Preston Avenue South and Cornish Road.

The Sobeys announcement represents two retail firsts for Saskatchewan, vice president of Collier's International Keith Webb said.

“This is the first 58,000 square foot grocery store Sobeys is doing in Western Canada.”

At the same location, but in a separate building, Sobeys will build and operate one of two privately owned liquor stores in Saskatoon. Co-op has the contract for the west side location going into the Blairmore Suburban Centre.

The 16.6 acre commercial development includes over 142,000 square feet of retail space. Webb said people can look forward to more announcements in the New Year.

“We'll be bringing some new restaurants to the city,” he said adding the restaurant cluster will be aimed at families and adults.

“The amount of tenant interest we've had in this centre has been phenomenal.”

The project expects to be fully leased by spring 2014. The anticipated opening for the liquor store is August with the remainder opening in the fall.
