More wolf sightings in La Ronge

Jan 5, 2011 | 10:53 AM

A spokesperson for Saskatchewan Environment said they have had four unconfirmed wolf sightings within La Ronge since Christmas Eve.

“We had one Christmas Eve, one boxing day, one during the week before New Year's, and one this morning,” said compliance manager for La Ronge, Daryl Minter, during a phone interview Tuesday,
When their officers have shown up to check out the reports, there has been nothing there or the wolf is actually a coyote, he said.

“What I've been doing is plotting each of the times and locations of each of the sightings and there doesn't appear to be any pattern, other than that they are along the outer edge of the town itself. I've been trying to determine whether there was something in the town that would be attracting it, but like I say so far there has been no pattern developed.”

Last month a band councilor with the Lac La Ronge Indian Band shot and killed a wolf when it wandered into her backyard.
