Health region power outage update

The Prince Albert Parkland Health Region provided this update and information on the services they are offering and what departments are closed.

Victoria Hospital
– Using emergency generators, with arrangements for fuel to ensure continuous operation
– Vital systems continue in patient care areas, including access to oxygen and suction, as well as power for required equipment
– Food services are providing cold meals, such as sandwiches
– Elective surgeries have been cancelled and will continue to be cancelled until full power is restored due to safety concerns.
– Emergency surgeries will continue; however, some cases may be transferred to Saskatoon depending on complexity and length of time to the procedure.
– Some ambulatory care procedures, including endoscopies, will be cancelled until power is restored.
– The facility is managing patients safely.
– The emergency department is operating as normally. With most physician clinics closed, the Region is working with clinics to provide additional GP coverage in the facility.

Herb Bassett Home
– Using emergency generators
– Cold meals are being served to residents in the facility

Brief and social detox
– Social detox unit remains open
– Brief detox is closed until power is restored

Mental Health inpatient unit
– Using emergency generators, otherwise operating normally

Mental Health outpatient unit
– Closed until power restored

Pineview Terrace Lodge
– Using emergency generators
– Service cold meals or using on-site barbecues to prepare meals for residents in facility

Home Care
– Priority services being provided with others cancelled dependent on availability of power and light.
– Meals on wheels have been suspended due to provider not being able to operate. Families, friends and neighbours are asked to help where able.

Acquired Brain Injury
– Continue service where possible and will be in contact with clients if at all possible

Public Health – Mac Mall
– Clinics have been cancelled

Diabetes Education, fitLife (cardio-pulmonary rehab), Addiction Services
– Clinical services suspended until power restored

Public Health Inspection
– Will respond to inquiries and work with local food service businesses and providers

Mont St. Joseph (long-term care)
– Using emergency generator, otherwise operating normally

Shellbrook Hospital
– Using emergency generators
– No outpatient services or laboratory services until power is restored

Parkland Terrace (Shellbrook)
– Using emergency generators
– Cold meal services to residents in the facility
– Some flooding in the basement due to sump pump failure. Residents are located on the main floor.

Whispering Pine Place (Canwood)
– Using emergency generators
– Working with town to ensure water supply
– Cold meal services to residents in the facility

Evergreen Health Centre (Leoville)
– Using emergency generators
– Cold meals services to residents in the facility

Big River Health Centre, integrated facility
– Emergency generators in use
– Clinics continue as scheduled
– Cold meal services to residents in the facility
– Working with town to ensure water supply

Spiritwood and District Health Complex
– Emergency generators in use
– Clinics continue as scheduled
– Cold meal services as necessary to residents in the facility

Birch Hills Health Facility
– Some power available, but continue to use emergency generators to ensure safety of residents and staff

Wheatland Lodge (Leask)
– Resumed normal operations when power was restored earlier on Tuesday

Jubilee Lodge (Kinistino), Hafford Special Care Centre and Primary Care Site
– Were not affected by power outage

The temperature is a concern in all facilities impacted by the power outage, as the air conditioning does not run on the emergency generators.  

Region will continue to monitor conditions and is focused on ensuring the safety of the patients, residents and our staff.
