Stanley to appear in provincial court today on firearms storage charges
Gerald Stanley will be in North Battleford’s provincial court Monday afternoon facing firearms storage charges from Aug. 9, 2016, the day Colten Boushie was fatally shot in Stanley’s Biggar-area farmyard.
Stanley was acquitted of a second-degree murder charge related to Boushie’s death Feb. 9, following a trial at Court of Queen’s Bench in Battleford.
According to the North Battleford Provincial Court file, Stanley is currently facing two charges of improper storage of a firearm. One of the charges is for a number of rifles and a shotgun, while the other relates to a Ruger Blackhawk .45-calibre handgun.
The Federation of Sovereign Indigenous Nations (FSIN), who were very vocal during Stanley’s murder trial, said they are hoping Vice-Chief Kim Jonathan will attend Stanley’s court appearance Monday.
