Techera scores twice, has two assists as Whitecaps defeat Central FC
VANCOUBER, B.C. — His nickname in Spanish is El Bicho. That translates into The Bug.
Midfielder Cristian Techera certainly proved to be a pest, scoring twice and setting up two other goals as the Vancouver Whitecaps defeated the Central FC Sharks 4-1 in a CONCACAF Champions League group play match Wednesday night.
Techera scored once on a penalty kick to give Vancouver a 2-0 lead in the 22nd minute, then put the game away in the 70th, knocking a pass from midfielder Marcel de Jong into the Sharks’ goal.
He also set up goals by Blas Perez and Masota Kudo as the Whitecaps finished first in the Championship League Group C with a 4-0-0 record for 12 points. Central FC, from Couva, Trinidad and Tobago, dropped to 0-2-1 for one point.
