Misdialing 911

Prince Albert Police Service said they have responded to hundreds of misdials this year.

It’s common for people to get trapped in a misdial situation when they mean to dial other numbers like 411, said Sgt. Kelly McLean.

“If you do accidentally contact 911, do not hang up on the dispatcher,” McLean said.

“Understand that our staff does not know what’s happening in your residents and that each call to 911 would result in a uniform police response to the address from which the call originated.”

When talking to the dispatcher McLean, said people should answer any questions from dispatch and explain the circumstances of the non-emergency call.

“Your co-operation will assist in deploying emergency services personal where there needed most in our community.”

McLean also cautioned against letting children play with the telephone as that can also result in a misdialed 911 call.

Non-emergency calls should be directed to the Prince Albert Police Service non-emergency line at 953-4222.
