At Carlton Comprehensive Public High School the students are what matter most.

Carlton’s slogan is “Building Our Future One Student At A Time” and it is a motto that is taken very seriously. Students at Carlton are encouraged from their first day to dream big, challenge themselves and strive to become responsible community members.

“We have got such a great school here,” said David Lokinger, vice-principal at Carlton Comprehensive Public High School. “Our school is everything and anything, our school is very flexible to the needs and desires of our students.”

It’s no secret that Carlton is a large High School but most will agree that it is the size of the school that makes it so great and opens so many new doors for the students that attend.

“The advantages of attending a large school instead of a small school is we can offer a lot more options and choices,” said Lokinger. “The students don’t conform to us we really conform to meet the needs of our students and that’s kind of the basis on when you hear us talking on “You Matter” which is our philosophy.”

At Carlton they offer various accreditation programs where students can gain hours towards their apprenticeship or journeyman. They now also offer university level english, science and math classes to their grade 12 students. And then of course there is also always a variety of athletics and or clubs that students can take advantage of as well.

“We believe all of our students are individuals and it’s our job to find out what can really help foster that individuality so they can go and do those great things they really want to do,” said Lokinger.

Carlton averages somewhere around 300 graduates per year and every single one of those graduates are taught during their time at Carlton to understand how precious their potential actually is and they are encouraged to do the work to put it to good use.

“We have had students that are just doing amazing things and if they want to do something or learn something we allow them too,” said Lokinger. “We have had some pretty cool things happen in the last year and I know many more cool things will happen in the future.”
