Best Pub/Bar : Prince Albert Brewing Co. & Steakhouse

Oct 1, 2014 | 9:19 AM

Prince Albert residents rave about the food and of course the hand crafted beer that is served at Prince Albert Brewing Co. & Steakhouse, and on a Friday and or Saturday night it is the best place to eat, drink and socialize in the city.

The pub first opened its doors in May 2011 and since then has done nothing but grow in popularity amongst locals and visitors. Danny Dobratz, general manager and co-owner of Prince Albert Brewing Co. & Steakhouse said he takes pride in the fact that every meal served at the pub is prepared fresh to order.

“We strive on specially prepared to order here,” said Dobratz “We don’t pre-cook any of our food and none of are food is franchised based, meaning that it is not prepared and packaged off site.”

The steak and burgers at Prince Albert Brewing Co. & Steakhouse are made from fresh never frozen certified angus-beef and are cut and prepared in house.

“You can always get a fresh steak here, never frozen seven days a week,” said Dobratz. “On average we probably sell up to 100 steaks a week.”

On Fridays, guests at the Prince Albert Brewing Co. & Steakhouse can enjoy a fresh never frozen certified angus-beef 10oz New York Striploin steak or 8oz chicken breast for the low of price of only $17, including a house beverage.

“At Prince Albert Brewing Co. & Steakhouse we strive to offer our customers a premium steak, the same as you would expect from a higher end steakhouse, $30 to $50 range, for a very reasonable price,” said Dobratz.

Wings are also popular at Prince Albert Brewing Co. & Steakhouse and pretty much every night is wing night. Dobratz said during the month of April alone they sold over 15,000 wings.

Prince Albert Brewing Co. & Steakhouse purchases most of their product locally.

“We built our building locally, we built our building with local contractors, we financed through the local credit union,  we employ local people,  and we buy our raw products locally as much as we can,” said Dobratz.

“If it’s not made in the city then we purchase it in the province, if it’s not in the province then it will be Alberta or Manitoba. We try to stay as local as possible and we want to keep our money circulating here.”

But what separates the Prince Albert Brewing Co. & Steakhouse from other local pubs is the locally made hand crafted beer they sell, that is also made in house. The Prince Albert Brewing Company (PABCo) is the sole microbrewer in Prince Albert and they produce a variety of their own hand crafted branded beers including Broken Bridge Lager, Rogues Red Ale, Grey Owl Pale Ale, Classic IPA, Natural Lime and Pioneer Pilsner. They also sell a variety of seasonal flavours including raspberry, blackberry, and chocolate.

Currently PABCo branded beer can be purchased at Prince Albert Brewing Co. & Steakhouse and various out of town establishments including the Capital Music Club in Saskatoon, The Clay Oven Cafe in Birch Hills, El Greco Family Restaurant in Melfort and the St Brieux Hotel.

Dobratz said the Army, Navy & Air Force Veterans Club (ANAVETS) and the Prince Albert Elks Club are the only locally licensed establishments that sell their product in Prince Albert, including any of the city owned or run facilities. He also mentioned that their retail and manufacturing facility in Prince Albert currently provides more than 25 local people with jobs.

Customers at Prince Albert Brewing Co. & Steakhouse can enjoy a pint of PAB Co beer at the low price of $4.25 throughout the day. After 7 p.m. they can enjoy a pint for $4.75.
