P.A. woman shares cool tradition with Ice man

Over 56 per cent of respondents in a recent poll conducted by paNOW said they don’t believe in sending Christmas cards, but for over a decade, a Prince Albert woman has maintained a long distance relationship with a well-known celebrity.

Ali Mysiorek said she first met musician/ construction show host Robert Van Winkle (a.k.a Vanilla Ice) 15 years ago. Winkle was performing at a night club in Prince Albert, and Mysiorek who was then President of the Vanilla Ice Posse (V.I.P.) Posse fan club did not hesitate to come and see him.

“I actually drew a logo of just like a Vanilla Ice symbol and he bought the logo off me and still uses it on his albums and stuff,” she said, adding he paid her $15,000.

To this day Mysiorek continues to design graphics for her favourite musician and said she has come to know him as a friend as well. She described Winkle as a very down-to-earth person.

“He doesn’t act like he’s a celebrity, he doesn’t think that he’s better than anybody else, and you know he actually does a lot for children and for non-profit organizations,” she said.

Last year, Winkle was performing in Saskatoon as part of the “I love the 90s tour” and Mysiorek was invited up on stage. After the birth of her son, Mysiorek even received a Congratulations card from Winkle. Mysiorek said she has kept every card she has received from her friend.

“The older ones were kind of like ‘hope you are doing well’ and see you on a [given date],” she said. “Pretty much anytime he’s anywhere in Canada I get free tickets,” she said.
