Water leak shuts down museum

Nov 20, 2018 | 8:00 AM

Staff and volunteers are busy cleaning up after water flooded into the basement of the Prince Albert Historical Museum Sunday.

Museum Manager and Curator Michelle Taylor said the museum was closed Monday and will be today as well. She said the organization was lucky to have volunteers in the building on Sunday who noticed the leak in the building’s basement.

“This leak was coming through the wall where the SaskTel line enters the building on top of our oversized maps,” Taylor told paNOW. “We had a really quick work party in the afternoon, we called in some extra volunteers, and they laid out some of the maps to have them dry.”

Taylor said the maps included R.M. maps, blueprints and city maps, and while there is some damage, it is minimal. She said volunteers took shifts throughout the night on Sunday mopping up water and emptying buckets until morning as City crews worked to contain the leak.
