Special designation for local fundraiser

It is a step she didn’t have to take, but its another testament of her commitment to the community. The executive director of the Victoria Hospital Foundation, Sherry Buckler, has been named a Certified Fund Raising Executive (CFRE).

The designation is granted to those who have met a series of international standards which include tenure in the profession, education, demonstrated fundraising achievement and a commitment of service to not-for-profit organizations. They also have to pass a rigorous written examination and uphold Accountability Standards and the Donor Bill of Rights. The certification is a voluntary achievement.

“It is a huge indicator that I am passionate about this organization and the industry in general and it’s a signal to my colleagues, community and any potential donors that I am very committed to upholding the Donor Bill of Rights, ethics and a code of standard,” Buckler said. “I am interested in staying in the industry long term as well as growing professionally through ongoing educational opportunities.”

There are only 6,000 professionals around the world who hold the CFRE designation. Recipients must recertify every three years.
