New act brings summer fair to new heights

Jul 30, 2018 | 2:00 PM

Chuckwagon and chariot races always draw the biggest crowds at the annual exhibition but there is one unique performance that is expected to attract extra attention this year.

“The Milord High Dive Act is just breathtaking to watch. The acrobats jump into a such a small pool from such a height,” Huseyin Gumus, the general manager of Prince Albert Exhibition, said.

According to the entertainment group’s website, the acrobatic divers jump from heights of three, six, nine and 25 metres into a pool that is only eight metres in diameter and only three metres deep. The Milord High Dive Act performs every day of the annual summer fair with show times at 2:30 p.m., 4:30 p.m. and 7 p.m.

Fairgoers can also enjoy a petting zoo, 4-H light horse show, a trade show, flower arranging demonstrations and the West Coast Amusements midway among many other events.

“West Coast Amusements seem to have more trucks pulled in than normal this year, so I am hoping to see something new and exciting,” Gumus said.

The midway will stay open until midnight Wednesday through to Saturday. This year, there won’t be any musical acts performing on a mainstage but Gumus said a lot of the entertainment, including the high diving act and the chuckwagon and chariot races, don’t start until the late afternoon which means the public can still enjoy a full day of events.

Gumus took over as general manager of the Prince Albert Exhibition on June 1, 2018 and said his first priority was beautifying the grounds in time for the 135th annual event.

“Our volunteers and contractors and maintenance team put in hundreds of hours to fix the pavement, paint the barns and hangars, trim the trees and repair as much as we could to give the place an updated look.” Gumus said.

The annual parade to kick off the summer fair begins at 7 p.m. Monday night on Central Avenue. The midway and other events start Tuesday and run until Saturday evening. A full lineup of the events and fair schedule can be found on the Prince Albert Exhibition website.
