Raiders release 2018-19 schedule

Jun 26, 2018 | 2:00 PM

Hockey season is around the corner in Prince Albert.

The WHL released its 2018-19 season calendar under a new 68-game format, meaning the Raiders know where they’ll be this fall and winter.

This year’s Raider schedule kicks off at the Art Hauser Centre Friday, September 21 with the first half of a home-and-home series against the Regina Pats, with the return date the next night.

The WHL has played a 72-game schedule every year from the 1975-76 season until now. The decision was made by the Board of Governors in October to reduce the schedule by four games, serving to cut down on travel and allow the players more time to work on development both on and off the ice.

Prince Albert will play host to all of the U.S. Division teams this year, with Everett, Seattle, Spokane, and Portland making their bi-annual trips out east. The Raiders will hit the road to take on the five B.C. Division teams in late January, with an 11-day road trip January 16-26.

Within the division, Prince Albert will face Saskatoon and Swift Current eight times each, while facing Brandon, Moose Jaw, and Regina six times.

This year’s schedule once again wraps up with a home-and-home set against the Saskatoon Blades starting March 15 at SaskTel Centre and returning to the Art Hauser Centre March 16.

The Raiders’ annual Family Day Game will be played in Prince Albert February 18 at 4 p.m.

Season tickets for 2018-19 are now on sale.
