P.A. to host Saskatchewan Country Music Awards and Festival

Jan 24, 2018 | 4:00 PM

Prince Albert will be the centre of the country music world in April.

The city will host the 29th Saskatchewan Country Music Awards and Country Music Festival.

“We are very excited to be chosen this year,” president of the Saskatchewan Country Music Association’s (SCMA) Prince Albert chapter Shayne Morley told paNOW. “It brings in talent from all over the province and this is good for Prince Albert.”

The weekend of April 27 to 29 will feature a total of seven events including a trade show and industry awards, and the main music awards night itself. That goes at the E.A.Rawlinson Centre. Morley said the Prince Albert Inn is playing host to the bulk of the activities from the welcome party on the Friday evening through to the brunch gospel show on the Sunday morning. Some of the other events include the Association’s AGM and banquet, youth show and songwriter’s workshop.

Morley said apart from the big celebration of country music the weekend will be a boon for P.A.

“As far as the award show and all the events that go that weekend it brings so many people together and to the city,” he said.

Morley said the list of nominees for the awards will come out next month based on decisions by the membership of the SCMA. While new members are always welcome he noted only those who have held their membership for the last year are eligible to vote for award winners.

The public can buy tickets for some or all of the weekend events through Picatic and on the SCMA website.
