Security measures reviewed at Sask. legislature

More work is being done to improve security measures at the Saskatchewan legislature, with the RCMP being called in to conduct a security threat assessment.

“We’ll be putting the resources in place that are necessary to make sure we have a secure environment here at the legislature,” said MLA Jeremy Harrison. “The government will spend what’s necessary.”

The sergeant-at-arms spoke out regarding security after the attack on Parliament Hill last week. He suggested several improvements that could be made including adding metal detectors, outdoor cameras, and key card entrances.

“We would have been taking the recommendations seriously one way or the other, but obviously I think there is a recognition that what perhaps people thought it can’t happen here, well, I think we realized last Wednesday, things like that can happen,” said Harrison.
