The Big River sawmill has started production and expected to go into full production by January or February of 2014.

The sawmill started production in early September according to Bill Kordyban, president of Carrier Forest Products, which owns the mill. The mill will be up to two shifts by early 2014.

“It’s kind of in a limited fashion. We’ve just started one shift in the sawmill,” he said.

The mill was shut down in 2006. Kordyban said there will be new equipment brought into the mill, and more employees will be added. About 40 people are employed there right now, with the total number of workers expected to reach 80 to 100 when the mill is running at full production.
