Allan Mayor Larry Sommerfeld is prodding Saskatchewan’s Conservative MPs to reveal their opinions on BHP Billiton’s proposed takeover of PotashCorp.
“They better come out of the wood work and say what they think pretty quick, or else people are going to be very skeptical that they’re hiding something,” the small town mayor told News Talk Radio on Friday.
“They’re afraid to make too much of a comment on it, and I don’t blame them, I would be too,” Sommerfeld said.
So far, none of Saskatchewan’s 13 Conservative MPs have offered their personal opinion of the BHP Billiton – PotashCorp deal.
When News Talk Radio asked for comment regarding the proposed takeover, we were passed along to Industry Minister Tony Clement’s office.
“It seems to me like this is more volatile that I thought it was going to be. I thought this was going to be a pretty quiet thing. But, boy, it’s stirring the waters pretty good,” Sommerfeld said.
The Federal government, which has the power to block the deal, has until Nov. 3 to rule on the proposed takeover.
Allan is 61 kilometres southeast of Saskatoon.
