Riders drop their fourth straight, losing to B.C. Lions

The Saskatchewan Roughriders have found themselves in their worst winning drought since 2005.

The Riders lost their fourth straight game, as the B.C. Lions were able to hold on to a 23-17 victory at Empire Field in Vancouver.

Turnovers cost the Riders as Darian Durant threw three interceptions, two deep in B.C. territory, and also fumbled late in the fourth quarter. The B.C. Lions were able to capitalize on Durant's fumble, making it a 20-10 B.C. lead. B.C. added a field goal a few minutes later and looked like they had a commanding 23-10 lead.

The Roughriders did mount somewhat of a comeback. Durant hit Chris Getzlaf for a touchdown with under two minutes remaining. The Roughriders James Patrick appeared to knock the ball out of bounds on the ensuing on-side kick but the review gave the ball to the Lions. Despite getting the ball back with 50 seconds left, the Roughriders couldn't get into a position to score the go ahead touchdown.

The special teams of Saskatchewan had another blunder. Yonus Davis returned an Eddie Johnson punt 87-yards for a touchdown in the second quarter. It gave the Lions a 10-3 lead, a lead they would not relinquish. As for the Roughriders defence, who allowed over 180 yards rushing their last five game, they allowed only 64-yards against the Lions.

The loss means the Roughriders are now in their worst losing streak since a five-game losing streak back in 2005. The Riders, who were 9-4 and riding a three game losing streak, are now sitting at 9-8 with just one game remaining until they host the Western Semi-Final against either Edmonton or B.C.

The Riders will host the Eskimos in the regular season finale on November 6th.
