Annual baby crawl draws large crowd at Gateway Mall

Over a hundred spectators gathered under the skylight inside the Gateway Mall on Saturday afternoon for the most exciting race of the year.

The annual baby crawl had 11 participants this year, where Felix G., who’s nearly one year old, took home first place. His mom, Renee Blain, explained that she and her sister had a plan to help him win.

“[Me and him] were separate from each other for about 45 minutes before the race.”

Giving credit to her sister for the idea, she added that brief time away from each other gave him more of a reason to crawl back to mom. After winning the race, Blain said that Felix would enjoy a snack before taking a victory nap.

Gateway Mall general manager Sharon Faul said they were super pleased with the turnout, and for the community support.

“We’ve had some really unseasonable weather so we weren’t sure what the turnout would be, but we had a great crowd, and we had lots of great babies buying for some prizes.”

Faul continued that all of the prizes for the winners were supplied by merchants inside the mall, which totaled over $1,500.

“We had some really nice jewelry from Paris Jewelers and Milo Silver, Blankets & More and Global [Fashions] donated some really beautiful plush blankets, we had some other toys that were donated from Kids First, Tots Treasure Trunk, and some of our other merchants, and Gateway Mall added a few things in there too that we had collected over time. So, it’s a nice great rounded package of toys for the kids and stuff for the adults as well.”

The second-place winner was Brooklyn C., and third place was claimed by Avery R.
