MACSI celebrates an anniversary

An addictions treatment facility in Prince Albert is expecting changes in the new year.

The Métis Addictions Council of Saskatchewan Inc. is changing their intake procedures.

Currently, they take people once a month for the 28-day program. Beginning in January the intake will be weekly, said Glen McMaster, the regional director of MACSI.

“It should keep us full all the time and that way it will eliminate the wait time or a waitlist. If somebody comes in and the program started a week and a half ago, they’re not waiting a month to get in,” he said.

By eliminating wait times, it helps people who are ready for treatment, when they are ready, McMaster said.

Historically, if someone dropped out of the program in the 16-bed facility, that bed would remain open until the next monthly intake, the weekly intake will make better use of that bed, he said.

On Friday, MACSI was celebrating their 40th anniversary in the province.

They do hear back from some of their past clients, said Christine Delorme, assistant regional director.

“We get letters from clients and calls saying they’ve been sober for a year. Things like that,” she said.

That effort really supports staff members in the work they do, McMaster said.

“It makes us feel like we are doing our job right and if we can reach one person than it’s worth it,” he said.
