Lawton Captures Canada Cup

Stefanie Lawton captured the Canada Cup in Medicine Hat, Alberta Sunday for the second time in three years. 

The Shellbrook native defeated Olympic silver medalist, Cheryl Bernard of Calgary, 7-3 in Sunday's Championship Final.  Lawton, who rink now includes former Provincial champion Sherry Anderson advanced to the final by beating Calgary's Shannon Kleibrink, 8-4 in the semi-final Saturday and with a 9-2 win over Krista McCarville of Ontario in the first round of the playoffs Saturday morning.  

Lawton finished the round-robin portion of the tournament with a 4-1 record, good for second place in her pool and a berth into the playoffs.  Kleibrink finished in first place with a 5-0 record in the same pool. Bernard finished first in her pool with a 4-1 record followed by McCarville with a 3-2 record. 

Meanwhile, Amber Holland of Regina ended with a 2-3 record and out of the playoffs.
