Preliminary inquiry ordered for hit and run charges
A preliminary inquiry has been ordered for charges against a woman accused in a hit and run death last year.
Danielle Nadine Chamakese of Pelican Lake appeared in court on Wednesday for charges of criminal negligence causing death and failing to remain at the scene of an accident.
During her appearance, her lawyer Ben Partyka elected for a trial by judge and jury. Such an election means a judge automatically must order a preliminary hearing to determine if there is sufficient evidence to proceed to trial.
Crown prosecutor Joseph Kulyk informed the court he would be calling 21 crown witnesses to the inquiry.
