Heartbreak for the Raiders

Apr 4, 2011 | 6:51 AM

Despite a heartbreaking loss to the Blades in overtime, the Raiders are proud of their playoff run.

“It was an outright war, it was a fantastic hockey game,” said Bruno Campese, Prince Albert Raiders coach and general manager.

What is being called the best game played at the Art Hauser centre this year, the competition was packed with fans and fast, physical hockey.

Among the highlights were a first period goal by Antoine Corbin and the repetitive, nearly impossible, saves by Raider goalie Jamie Tucker.

One more than one occasion the 19 year old had fans on their feet as he stopped another puck destined for the back of the net.

A hockey game, like the one played Sunday night, is the type players imagine.

“This is what you look for, growing up this is what you look for,” Tucker said, in the post-game show on CKBI radio.

“It's tough to lose.

“(We) played like this is our last game, no regrets, hold nothing back,”

He said his moves wouldn’t have been possible without support from his team and fans.

“I love it here, you fans are just amazing, I can't believe what you did for these playoffs,” he said, to those faithful gathered in the Ches Leach lounge after the game.

Campese was also quick to thank the fans for their support during the playoff run.

It helps the team when they know they have a full house, they are pumped to start the game with all that noise, he said.

As they move forward, Campese said the team will be looking at ways to have that level of support, year round.

“It's safe to say, the future looks bright with a lot of these young guys.”

In the end the Blades bested the Raiders 2-1 and move on to the next round to face off against the Kootenay Ice or the Brandon Wheat Kings.

The Raiders on the other hand will undergo medicals today and interviews with the coaching staff Tuesday. Travel plans will be made and they players head home by Wednesday or Thursday.
