Canada’s Jeff Stoughton remains perfect at World Men’s Curling Championships

Canada is still out in front at the Ford World Curling Championship in Regina, but Jeff Stoughton's undefeated team has company.

Stoughton came back from 2-0 deficit for a 5-3 win over Pete Fenson of the U.S. in the late draw at the Brandt Centre on Monday night.

“Pete (Fenson) played awesome, he made a couple great doubles and some nice hit and rolls, draws, everything,” Stoughton told reporters after the match.

“We weren't perfect but we made some big shots when it counted. We seemed to have great draw weight — all of us had great draw weight — which counted a little bit there. We just forced them. We got lucky in nine and in 10.”

Stoughton's win moved Canada into a tie for first with Scotland at 5-0.

The U.S was leading 3-2 after four ends and Canada blanked the next three ends, waking up the crowd with a “spin-o-rama” at the end of seventh end.

“It was pretty dull out there for a couple of blank ends so I figured we'll throw a quick spinner in there just to get it over with. You know, it's just something to see if we could turn the tide a little bit and why not throw it in there,” Stoughton said.

Stoughton, curling 100 per cent through seven ends, was forced to draw for a point in the eighth.

Canada then stole single points in the ninth and tenth ends for the win because Fenson was heavy on his final draws in both ends.

Canada takes on the 4-1 France team in Tuesday's afternoon draw and the Scots in the evening.
