First time MLA Scott Moe not taking win for granted

After a night of pacing between desks, crunching the percentages and a never ending stream of phone calls Scott Moe is stepping into his first pair of MLA shoes for the Saskatchewan Party.

“Were tremendously thrilled and were happy out here in the Rosthern–Shellbrook constituency. It’s a very humbling experience,” Moe said.

Moe took in 4,410 votes, while NDP candidate Clay DeBray got 2,167. Green Party Candidate, Margaret-Rose Uvery, took 209.

In the last two elections the Rosthern–Shellbrook constituency was no contest with the SaskParty taking about 50 per cent of the vote.

This time however, Moe said he never took anything for granted as both the SaskParty and the NDP ran new candidates.

“We did a lot of work through the summer and into the fall here and right up until the night … We didn’t know exactly what to expect as we went along here but we never took anything for granted. We’re thrilled” he said.

Throughout the election his campaign teams were very inward focused, not looking to other parties, but looking at how the constituency could be part of the larger Saskatchewan, Moe said.

He said his business background and involvement in community building projects gives him a strong tool set to understand and represent the constituents in the Rosthern–Shellbrook constituency.

Looming over the campaign office, where Moe and his team were gathered on election night, was the knowledge that Moe is going to have quite a lot to absorb as a new representative.

“It’s a lot of work and there’s a lot on your mind … there’s going to be a learning curve obviously for me as a new MLA now. I’m just looking forward to getting through some of that learning curve and maybe seeing my family a little bit more in the next six months here then the last six,” he said.

They had given a lot of thought to the decision to run and leading up the election has been very busy, Moe said.

He said there was one thing he’s looking for in the next couple of days is “having a good night sleep.”
