Knowledge Exchange

May 7, 2015 | 12:40 PM

May 26 is the Community Networking Coalition’s Knowledge Exchange.

The topic for the afternoon exchange will be an overview of and background to the Provincial “Poverty Strategy”, currently taking submissions through the Ministry website.  You will learn about the efforts of the group, Poverty Costs, and their on-going work to bring the topic forward on the political agenda here in Saskatchewan.  We will also learn some facts about and factors contributing to Poverty here in Prince Albert.

Many Provinces and municipal jurisdictions are now looking at implementing a poverty reduction strategy.

If you have been hearing about this and wondering what is happening here in Saskatchewan or if you would like to have in-put into this conversation, then you will be interested in registering for the CNC knowledge exchange:

Topic: Poverty, increasing our awareness, developing a common understanding – learning about plans for a Provincial Poverty Reduction Strategy.

Where: PA Arts Centre, 1010 Central Avenue – 2nd floor studio

When: Tuesday, May 26 – 12:00 noon – 2:30 pm (brown bag lunch – refreshment break will be provided at 1:30 pm)

Who: You are invited – Sponsored by the Prince Albert Community Networking Coalition, with guests Julie Kryzanowski from the Saskatoon Health Region presenting an overview of the Poverty Costs movement; Keri Okanik, presenting a summary of the Prince Albert Homelessness Count, and Prudence McKenzie, Regional Intersectoral Committee presenting an overview of the work of the Provincial Advisory Group on Poverty Reduction Strategy and the round table discussions held recently in Saskatoon.

Why: Poverty affects everyone in every community – Lost potential and hopelessness poses an enormous cost to our communities in so many ways – learning about this movement to affect change is a good first step that each of us can take.

What? The objectives for the day are:

  • To provide the community with an opportunity to increase awareness about POVERTY in Saskatchewan, an overview of the Provincial Poverty Reduction Strategy currently unfolding and some facts  and factors here in Prince Albert.
  • To map events and key factors impacting poverty on our community.
  • To develop a summary of the discussions and information shared at the Knowledge Exchange
  • To disseminate this summary to the participants and all CNC Members as well as the Saskatchewan Advisory Group on Poverty Reduction

We look forward to your participation in this important event. Contact me to register or for more information:
