Beaver chews through tree, causes grass fire near Berry Barn

May 17, 2015 | 3:21 PM

A beaver is to blame for starting a brush fire south-west of Saskatoon near the Barry Barn on Saturday.

The fire burned near Valley Road, south of Saskatoon.

The Saskatoon Fire Department says the beaver chewed through a poplar tree which then fell onto a power line. The powerline arched and started the fire.

Crews arrived at the acre-large blaze around 4 p.m. and had it under control within one hour.
