RCMP looking for man who ran away during traffic stop

Jun 7, 2015 | 11:52 AM

RCMP in Kyle are looking for a man who ran away from officers during a traffic stop.

It happened on Friday afternoon, just after 4 p.m. on Highway 4 north of Kyle.

The RCMP said they stopped the vehicle for speeding and 48-year-old Aleksandr Levin ran from the vehicle into a remote and rugged area known locally as Matador Hills.

RCMP from Swift Current and Kyle, a search plane from Civil Air Search and Rescue Association, and a local helicopter and pilot searched for Levin, but couldn’t find him.

Police believe Levin may have reached Clearwater Regional Park and say they are concerned for his safety. According to the RCMP, he is not considered a danger to the public.

Though his name is spelled different, Levin appears to be the same man who pleaded guilty to harbouring his daughter in the Phillipines. Court heard in 2014 that he took her from her mother, his mistress, and kept her in the Phillipines with a seamstress he barely knew. He was sentenced to 15-months.

He is caucasian, six feet tall, 200 pounds with grey hair, brown eyes, and may speak with a foreign accent. He was last seen wearing light coloured shorts and a plaid shirt. Levin lives in Saskatoon.

If anyone has any information, they’re asked to call Kyle RCMP at 306-375-5510.
