Distracted driver responsible for city outage

Prince Albert Police have confirmed driver inattentiveness was the cause of a motor vehicle accident in the West Flat that led to a power outage across the city on Tuesday morning.

A black SUV hit a power pole in the 500 block of 18th Street West. The damaged line came crashing down onto a distribution line, which then in turn caused a chain reaction, knocking out power at the city’s two main sub stations.

The driver of the vehicle, a 42-year-old man, is facing charges in connection to a bail violation.

Police have said that neither alcohol nor drugs were factors.
